The second floor of the Carriage House will be hosting a special exhibition: Modern Tintype Portraits by Troy R. Bennett.
The wet-plate collodion process, which can produce tintypes and ambrotypes, was invented by Englishman Frederick Scott Archer in 1851. From 1860 through the 1880s it was the most common of all photographic techniques. It requires a plate, be it glass or metal, to be coated, sensitized, exposed, developed, fixed and washed in the field while still wet.
Portland resident Troy R. Bennett is an authentic modern practitioner of this antique process. On display will be recent Portraits by Bennett. He will be on hand to explain the process and answer questions for the curious.
Admission to Bennett’s exhibition is free of charge.

Wine Tasting at Browne Trading Market
First and Third Saturdays, 1-5 PM
Browne Trading Market is happy to announce a change to our monthly Wine Tastings that will better allow our customers to take their time sampling and give more opportunity for our knowledgeable wine staff to answer questions and to assist those looking to purchase.
We will no longer be hosting Wine Tastings on the final Thursday of every month. Instead, we will be offering Themed Tastings on the First and Third Saturday of each month from 1pm to 5pm. This begins Saturday, October 6th. Please note we will not be conducting a Tasting in September.
We hope this will be more convenient for those looking to taste and shop at the same time.
We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you on Saturdays!
