Downtown Cadets

Our 2016 Downtown Cadets: Dakota, Morgan, Brian and Tony
Meet our cadets: Dakota, Morgan, Brian and Tony

Safety with a smile

To help ensure that Downtown Portland is a safe and wonderful place to be, we oversee a Downtown Cadet Program in partnership with the Portland Police Department.

Cadets are training for careers in law enforcement or the military, and the program gives them valuable hands-on experience in the field of community policing. The cadets are sworn in as constables with the City of Portland, and as part of their duties they:

  • Make neighborly visits to downtown businesses
  • Identify persons in need and offer assistance
  • Enforce local municipal ordinances
  • Meet and greet residents & tourists
  • Provide a friendly face to public safety in Portland

Meet our team

Our cadets patrol the downtown district on foot May through September (Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-8pm). They love personal introductions and the opportunity to talk safety, so if you see them out and about: go ahead and ask what they’re up to! If you’re a downtown business owner and haven’t had a chance to meet the cadets, please email Amy to schedule a visit.
