Portland Stage Affiliate Artists will lead students in fun, challenging and enriching activities, through which students learn to use their bodies, voices, minds and imaginations.
Theme-based explorations help develop your child's ability to work as part of an ensemble, improve focus and concentration, and learn active listening skills while also reveling in spontaneity and creativity.
This 3 day theater intensives will cover the basics and then some, plus end with an open studio for families to see what we've learned.

Victoria’s Wonderama
This Spring Victoria Mansion will host an exhibit entitled Victoria's Wonderama, a collection of artwork inspired by the Steampunk Movement. A combination of science fiction and the post-industrial era, the Steampunk Movement envisions an alternate world in which steam is widely used to power technology. Followers of the movement examine both contemporary technology as well as Victorian-era innovations within the context of steam power. The end result? Artwork that is both retro and futuristic with a distinctly Victorian tinge.
The exhibit will open March 30 and run through April 21, 2012.
Hours are 11am-4pm, Wednesday-Saturday
All Admissions are only $10.
FREE croquet on the lawn Saturdays 4/7, 4/14, & 4/21, weather and turf conditions permitting.
The Carriage House Museum Shop is closed during this exhibit. Regular season tours of the Mansion will resume May 1, 2012.

Spring Cleaning your Mind: Making Space for Happy in your Life

We all know spring cleaning leaves us with a clear space and a calm feeling. The same is true for mind and your life. When we clear space in our mind, happiness has room to flow into our life. This 90 minute workshop creates a safe environment where individuals can explore life changes in a group environment using tools such as didactic interaction, journaling, and group dynamics. You will be taught a technique, think of it as a super cleaning tool, which will enable you to sweep away limiting thought patters that keep you from fully enjoying a sparkling new awareness.

Larissa Haynes is a Personal Growth Facilitator and an enthusiastic group leader who helps individuals develop self awareness to bring about change in their life. It is her passion to share what she has learned with others who are also on the journey of discovery. Larissa holds a BA in comparative religious theology with a concentration in eastern philosophy. She has studied Creating and Leading Transformational Workshops with Ken Nelson, a Kripalu scholar-in-residence.

Sparks Ark Live Animal Show
Join wildlife rehabilitator David Sparks to meet some truly amazing live animals and hear some awesome stories of animal rescue! Biking and Walking Safety Course for Children at the Portland Public Library
A Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Educator from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine will give a hands-on presentation for children about biking and walking safety at the Portland Public Library on Friday, April 20th at 2:00pm. The event is for children ages 5 and older and will be held in the Samuel L. Cohen Children’s Library. Riding your bicycle can be great fun. But do you know how to “drive” your bike? There will be discussion & tips for bikers about the proper wearing of helmets, dressing for riding, checking bikes for safety and obeying the rules of the road. The educator will have a bike available for children to learn how to check their own bikes for safety before they ride using the “ABC Quick Check.”

Green Neighbor Family Festival
Celebrate Earth Day and support clean water education at the City of Portland's Green Neighbor Family Fest from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deering High School. The festival is free and will include a kids' obstacle course, live entertainment, face painting, kids' environmental activities, and more!

The Portland Flea-for-All is now open for business! Come spend Earth Day with your favorite vintage vendors and craftspeople. Located at the end of the Bayside Trail and just four blocks from Monument Square (for all you walkers and bicyclists) at 125 Kennebec St. We'll be open from 10-5.

Are you a high school student getting ready to take the SAT’s? If so, the Portland Public Library would like to help you out!
The Portland Public Library Teen Team is sponsoring an event which for teens getting ready to take the SAT’s. These teens are invited to come to the library to take a SAT practice test. This event will be held in Meeting Room #5 on the Lower Level of the Portland Public Library on Saturday, April 21st from 1:00-3:00pm.
This program is made possible by a Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP) grant awarded to the Maine State Library which provides 107 libraries statewide the opportunity to enhance or establish public computer centers, broadband access, and information training to our community. Portland Public Library is also one of 11 libraries in the BTOP program statewide to become a video conferencing regional hub which will allow the Library to enhance training for librarians and patrons via a video conferencing unit.

Urban Earth Day
MENSK, Curry Printing and the City of Portland will host Portland's 2012 Urban Earth Day Celebration. The event brings together many of Portland’s environmental and non-profit organizations, artists, sustainable businesses and residents and will give the public an opportunity to learn about local efforts to promote the city’s green economy and improve Portland’s urban environment.
The celebration will feature local, organic food, compost demonstrations, agricultural presentations, seed/sappling give-aways, dance performances, art, street musicians, face painting, and much more. The event offers fun, free activities for all ages. Wolfe's Neck Farm will showcase local agricultural and environmental education activities for youth including displaying some of their farm animals. The Department of Public Services will provide information on ways residents can prevent stormwater pollution, an important environmental effort to improve the health of the city’s natural waterways.

Carmina Burana performance at Merrill Auditorium
You’ve heard the music in film scores and TV ads, now experience the impact of a live performance when the University of Southern Maine’s Concert Band and Chorale take the Merrill Auditorium stage together for an epic performance of Carmina Burana on Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m. as part of the School of Music’s Spotlight Concert Series. Generations of USM alumni will join in the colossal performance, creating the first musical homecoming of its kind, conducted by USM School of Music faculty members Peter Martin with Robert Russell. Carmina, made popular through movie and commercial placements, combines the rich, full sound of dissonant chords with driving rhythms that make it an amazing experience to hear – and perform. $15 recommended donation at the door.
