One woman, three continents, six decades, and a lusty affair: from Mumbai to the Outback, New York City to San Francisco’s Haight Street, naïve schoolgirl to free spirit. Christina Augello—founding Artistic Director of EXIT Theatre and of the 28 year-old San Francisco Fringe Festival—reveals all in this award-winning “talk story” of adventure, passion, and a life lived without apology.
Developed for EXIT Theatre’s Talk Story Festival, Denial is a Wonderful Thing went on to win an award at NYC’s 2017 United Solo for “Best Storyteller,” was performed at sister Fringe festivals FRIGID Fest and Fundy Fringe in 2017, as well as the Gotham Storytelling Festival, enjoyed an international run in Chiang Mai’s Gate Theatre in early 2018, and has been published by EXIT Press, EXIT Theatre’s independent publishing imprint.
After touring the Fringe with Last Of the Red Hot Dadas in 2003, Boxcar Bertha in 2004, and Denial Is A Wonderful Thing in 2017, Augello is taking her decade-spanning, globe-trotting tale back on the road, from May to August, 2019, before returning home to run the 28th annual San Francisco Fringe Festival in September.
“Denial Is A Wonderful Thing is a show of rich language…Augello is a woman who has clearly lived a vivid life in her six decades. If this is what could fit in an hour, one has to wonder what other fascinating stories she must have.”
