On April 16th, at 5:30, in University of Southern Maine’s Glickman Library 7th floor Event Room (314 Forest Ave.) USM’s LGBTQ+ Collection and Women & Gender Studies present a program on the beginning of LGBTQ+ activism in Maine celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion which sparked a new wave of gay liberation. Allen Young, the author of Left, Gay & Green will share his memories, including his support of Maine activism. Steve Bull, who led University of Maine Orono’s Wilde-Stein Club in 1974 to hold the first Maine Gay Symposium, will introduce the speaker. Attendees will be encouraged to share their experiences.

Mr. Young will sign copies of his book, which will be on sale.

USM’s LGBTQ+ Collection, the largest and most comprehensive repository of primary materials documenting Maine’s community and their history, the major sponsor of the event, will showcase the digital access to its resources.
