Portland Downtown & Portland Buy Local launch inaugural 207 Day

PORTLAND — Portland Downtown and Portland Buy Local will this February launch the City of Portland’s inaugural 207 Day.

WHAT MAKES PORTLAND, PORTLAND.

From the Mansard roof atop the city’s tallest Victorian mansion down to its historic brick sidewalks and out to where its wharves meet the salty waters, the City of Portland is full of life, vibrancy, & culture.

To celebrate all that makes Portland, Portland — from its history to its people to its products to its businesses — Portland Downtown and Portland Buy Local join forces for the inaugural 207 Day.

Much like how Milwaukee, WI turned its 414 area code into “Milwaukee Day” on April 14th and how Chicago, IL celebrates March 12th each year, February 7th, mirroring Maine’s own 207 area code, will mark 207 Day here in Portland.

207 DAY SCAVENGER HUNT

A citywide scavenger hunt, calling on locals and visitors alike to explore and interact with the City of Portland and its many businesses, will kick off what is hoped to become an annual Maine-stay event. Portland Downtown will post a list of scavenger hunt tasks on its website in the days leading up to the event, which will be active Saturday, Feb. 5 – Monday, Feb. 7.

Participants of this free event will maze their way around the city to scan QR codes, snap photos of various Portland landmarks, shop at city storefronts, and more to complete scavenger hunt tasks. Players who complete enough tasks will be entered into a raffle for prizes.

‘ONLY THE BEGINNING’

“Our inaugural 207 Day is a chance for us to celebrate all things Maine. We’ll offer some fun and creative ways to explore, unique opportunities to engage with our rich history and offers from some of your favorite downtown shops. Every February 7 we’ll be celebrating 207 Day. This is only the beginning,” said Cary Tyson, executive director of Portland Downtown.

“207 Day is the perfect way to celebrate local entrepreneurs in what is often a slower season. We can’t wait to see how businesses participate and how the community responds,” Portland Buy Local Executive Director Mary Alice Scott said.
